blog 11. Giving back.

As we all know and so dearly love, Goodwill and RIFA are giving back to the community this weekend for all of their support and love. I personally love Goodwill and visit there often to see what news goods they have coming in. RIFA and Goodwill mean a lot to the community because they help those in need with daily goods that would otherwise be hard to come by. I am thankful for places like these and the people who work for them. I am always greeted with a friendly smile and a kind word when enter through the doors. This Thanksgiving will be special for these organizations and I am so happy that I get to support both as a volunteer and a customer.

blog 10. PLAYOFFS.

Tonight the Lions will face Trenton Peabody on their home field for this second round of the playoffs. Mr. Football nominee, junior Kyle Akin will be taking the field tonight along with his other teammates to lead the lions to victory. All eyes will be on this Jackson hero so he will have to leave everything on the field and depend on his brothers to fill in the gaps. The state championship is in our grasp its just a matter of a few games to make it there. As a fellow classmate, I think that Kyle and his teammates have what it takes to go all the way. I have total confidence in them and I know they will do a great job no matter how the score ends up. The Lions have only lost one game this season, so even if it ends tonight (which hopefully it wont), I am so very proud of the team. Go get 'em Lions!

Haley Carpenter Blog9 STL VS. BOS & TCA VS. ECS

Last night, in game 2 of the World Series the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-2. Cards fans were excited to see injured player, Carlos Beltran step up to the plate and to much surprise, he was a huge asset to this game hitting 2 singles, one in the first inning and another in the seventh to drive in the final run. Teammate Daniel Descalso had high hopes that Beltran would be in the lineup for the game. "I was pretty sure if the guy could swing he was going to be in the lineup. The guy is just a competitor and a gamer and nobody wants to be out there more than him. So I was keeping my fingers crossed that he would be in the lineup." Turns out that he is now a cardinals fan hero.
The Cardinals thought they had the game in their hands until the 6th when David Ortiz hit a two-run homer right over the Green Monster in left field. This put the score 2-1. Cards fans were on the edge of their seats at that point. Never fear though! "With the bottom of the order doing most of the damage, the Cardinals used two walks, a double steal, a sacrifice fly, a pair of singles and a botched play by the Red Sox to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead that became a must-have victory for St. Louis." What a great game Cardinals! As a devoted fan since birth, I am proud to say that I am apart of the Cardinal Nation!

Also in the sports realm, Trinity Christian Academy takes on Evangelical Christian School at ECS tonight in Cordova, Tennessee. Both teams are undefeated this season, so this should be one exciting game to watch.  TCA's Kyle Akin has a target on his back and everyone is expecting him to do big things tonight, but ECS however, was named Fox 13 Team of the week. TCA Head Coach, Blake Butler, is former assistant coach for ECS, so this game is personal for him. The players have been working hard in preparation for this game so they can get a win for their dearly loved coach. Eyes are also on TCA Kicker Eli Parker.  They have been working with him ever since last Friday night preparing him for any situation that may erupt during the game. If a big kick is neccessary, Coach Butler wants him ready for anything. Even though I will not be attending the game tonight, I will be supporting my classmates as they take the field and give it their all. I will be listening in through Grace Brodcasting and keeping up play by play. GO LIONS!

The Lions of Trinity Christian Academy head to Memphis tonight in a battle of unbeatens when they take on Evangelical Christian School.

Haley Carpenter blog8 TCA vs, JCM

The undefeated Trinity Christian Academy Lions take on the Jackson Central-Merry Cougars at the legendary Rothrock Stadium tonight. The Jackson Sun News team says "JCM coach Orentheus Taylor said last week after his team’s loss to Liberty the Cougars will have to work hard to be ready for the non-district game tonight." While the Cougars have been preparing for this game, so have the Lions. When word got up they the Lions were playing JCM, the TCA parents, teacher, and students have been sitting on edge waiting for this Friday night. JCM, Coach Blake Butler says, is probably one of the most athletic teams the Lions will face this season, so there can be absolutely no slack on defense.
Even though I cannot attend the game tonight, I am excited to see how our Lions will match up to the Cougars! GO LIONS!

Plagiarism 2 blog7

Plagiarism
1. If I was convicted of plagiarism and didn't really plagiarize, I would mad and probably would switch schools, because that is just unfair to punish someone when in reality, they didn't do anything wrong. It shows a lack of fairness and injustice to kids who are just trying to make it by.

2.My parents would be disappointed that I had plagiarized but not surprised. Being a high school student, we are constantly overwhelmed with homework and stress; sometimes, we feel as though our heads will burst right open, so we do absolutely anything to get an assignment down quick, so we can relax.

3. Just because your parents pay tuition does not guarantee an A on a test. It is up to you to work hard and earn a college education and have a chance at scholarships. Money can't buy everything in this world, unlike what most people believe.

4. This story, to be honest, has little to no effect on me. Yes, it opens my eyes to the consequences of plagiarism, but by the way our world is, it doesn't surprise me at all. It just shows how messed up and lazy we are. Also, it shows how easily we give up on things. Just because a case like the one at Piper comes up does not mean that you should quit, or resign in this case, when the situation starts to get difficult. Where has our integrity and resilience gone?!

5. I take away from this narrative that plagiarism is bad, and people don't like it. There are major consequences to plagiarism even when we don't think anything about it. Also, this article makes me mad, not at the kids but at the parents and staff. They should not have started this uprising and given up on their jobs.

Haley Carpenter blog6 2 GTA V

The questions of Grand Theft Auto V.

1. Is play endorsement?
I think people definitely play this game because it gives them freedom, from the actual world around us. For example, say some guy gets really mad because his boss ripped him off at work, so when they get home,. he plays this retarded game and kills a bunch of children in a hospital to let out their anger. This can be dangerous because what if all that adrenaline and anger goes to your head and you act on it in the real world, not realizing the consequences will be a bit different?

2.What do you get from playing?
I'm going to answer this question honestly and bluntly, NOTHING.

3.Who else in your life is playing?
If you are a teen playing this game, I think you're mostly likely playing because you're friends are playing, and they think it's "cool". To be considered in their crowd and continue being in their group, you do what they do. Consider your younger siblings, are they watching you play? What do they think about it? is this game going to affect their attitude?

4.Do you know when to quit?
For most people, they would say yes but in reality, I think the true answer is no. Some people are engulfed into this virtual world and just don't know when to put down the controller. This game is so ridiculous, it should be banned from children's eyes. This game can be so dangerous, you need someone to come slap you back into reality when your eyes finally glaze over from looking at a box on the wall for so long. Come on, people, STOP BEING SO STUPID.

5.Should Christians who are indwelt by the Lord Jesus Christ have moral issues with killing people in a virtual world?
one word. YES, this game is a problem and if Jesus was sitting there watching you play this game, you should and would be ASHAMED. I do not think the King of Kings would yell at the screen saying, "YEAH! GO STEAL THAT CAR AND GO HIT THAT OLD GUY WITH A CROWBAR!" Sorry folks, but that just will not happen.

Tennessee Schools have been stepping up their game including three local colleges, Union University, Freed Hardeman University, and UT Martin. Impressively, Both Freed and Union have been top tier schools for the past 13 years. ThIs year FHU was ranked #7 of Tennessee's safest schools. Rodney Weaver, the FHU director of campus safety and security says that "The safety of our students is a priority of the university". I love Freed Hardeman seeing that my older sister is a student there and one of my canidates as a college in a few years.

Also, off subject, Trinity Christian Academy plays South Gibson tonight at 7:00! The Lions will take on the Hornets and it should be a great game! GO LIONS!

With Peyton Manning's record of seven touchdown passes, the Denver Broncos assailed the Baltimore Ravens with ease. The 49-27 score turned heads and people are now saying,  "You can write it down now: The Broncos will be playing in this year's Super Bowl." They simply say this because the Broncos were barely functioning as a team, let alone were they expected to win. Manning is more than just focused this year to reach for the championship, I mean, let's be honest here, the superman can't play football for the rest of his life.
Everyone has their eye on the Golden Man because the Patriots have far too many problems on their offense to have Tom Brady's assistance and the Cincinnati Bengals are too young to compete with these top dogs. Manning remains humble however reminding his team that this was only one win, last year was last year, and there are still more games to come.
Overall, with Manning leading the pack, I think the Denver Broncos will turn out just fine this season.

The world has had their eye on the most famous boy band that has caused this "British Invasion". One Direction's movie This Is Us hits theaters everywhere tomorrow morning, August 30, 2013. Critics have given this kid friendly film a 2 and a half star rating out of four. Compared to Justin Bieber's movie that released a few years ago, Never Say Never, this movie is not necessarily focused on each boy's individual lives and how they reached stardom. The film is more a snippet of concert scenes, surprise interactions with flabbergasted fans, and hilarious moments that the group has shared. Even though, I myself am not a HUGE One Direction fan, I am interested in this film and how people will react to it in the days to come. As USA Today states, " It's 90 minutes of One D in vivid 3-D. Sure, the content is slick, one-dimensional fluff, but it's enjoyable and moderately captivating, not unlike their music."

Trinity Christian Academy has high expectations awaiting them from the crowd and community. Led by Junior quarterback Kyle Akin, the Lions have a tough and unique schedule to compete with this season. After putting up 21 points against Northside at the Southside Jamboree, the whole city is anxiously waiting to see how they will do tonight against the 2011 Division II-A champions, St. George. The Lions have to be cautious about all this hype they are receiving, however. The Northside game didn't really matter, but this one does. Head Coach Blake Butler says, " we’ve got a good team coming in that we’ll have to play well for.” He all says that he has coached around St. George since he was at Evangelical Christian School, and that they have always had a good program. The boys have to remain focused and play as a team to ensure a victory tonight on their home field. Myself and the whole town will be rooting for the Lions tonight at 7:00 at TCA. GO LIONS!

We have all heard of the mysterious Area 51: the home of the aliens. Now the CIA has lowered their guard about the seemingly fictional place that is supposedly located 90 miles from the all too familiar Las Vegas, Nevada. CIA project director Richard Bissell and Air Force commander Osmand Ritlandt first spotted the sight from the air. Originally they wanted the little airstrip place as a testing sight for pilots and U-2's. President Eisenhower later confirmed to the discovers that it was the secretive Area 51.

To gain workers, Kelly Johnson (Skunk Works founder) renamed the sight Paradise Ranch which was later shortened to just "The Ranch". In 2009, the public workers of Area 51 came together for a reunion. When people would approach these workers and ask if they worked for a CIA, they would simply respond, "I've never heard of them." Ultimately, this reunion proved that Area 51 exists.
